Hijama Training Program

James McConnell a.k.a., Sheikh Umar Rabbani is credited with being the first authorized hijama practitioner to offer ijazza hijama training and therapy to the Western world. He studied under the most qualified teachers in the world for over seven years while living and studying in Damascus Syria.

True Hijama Therapy is performed with glass jars and the use of fire. The many new methods using plastic cups and hand or machine pumps are in fact very dangerous and should be avoided by anyone seeking proper hijama therapy. Most unauthorized practitioners today use the plastic and hand pumps because they really have never been trained in the proper methods of Hijama and are only marketing or selling the services people like best. The excess pressure created with the hand pumps is very dangerous and can cause blood clotting. We cannot emphasize enough how important it is to be trained and treated by an authorized hijama practitioner.

Hijama training is not the mastery of the technical aspects of hijama or cupping, which can be learned in a relatively short amount of time. Real Hijama Practitioners are vetted for high spiritual acumen as they are true healers - a conduit for the blessings and healing coming only from Almighty God. Those who wish to make this important sunnah a business or become practitioners to satisfy their egos should not bother applying for training as authorization will not be given to those who are not very sincere. Discovering who is sincere is the basis of the training program. Ijaaza should not be confused with a fake certification process or training program. We will more fully explain the importance of the ijaaza process when we see you for training.

The proper way of training is to offer this sunnah for donations only, but unfortunately most people raised in the West are fairly ignorant and take advantage of situations or just do not understand the costs involved in providing the training and therapy. We therefore have been forced to charge for the services but encourage everyone obtaining authorization or offering therapy to at least offer sliding scale rates and free services to those who are not able to afford the services. If you are able to offer donation only services there is far more blessings.

We offer training throughout the warmer months from April until September corresponding to the optimal days for hijama therapy. The last fifteen days of the lunar days of the calendar that fall on the odd days, the 17th, 19th, 21st, 23rd and 25th are the recommended days for hijama. Saturdays and Wednesdays are excluded.

The approximate 17th lunar calendar day (subject to change) for the 2016 year are as follows.

APRIL 24th

MAY 24th

JUNE 22nd

JULY 22nd

Training requires an advanced reservation fee to secure a spot in the training session of your choice. This reservation fee is non-refundable but with proper notice we will work to reschedule your training if you have a scheduling conflict. Please send an email to TraditionalCupping@gmail.com and we will send you an invoice in the next few days. The initial fee is $75.00 dollars and must be paid in advance. Additional costs may vary depending on the amount of time spent training you. Each student is different. Cost will not exceed $200.00 and are often not more than $100.00 extra. The additional $100.00 will be due the first day of training. Skype sessions may also be required but your physical presence for at least one or more full hijama sessions are required.

Those who successfully complete the training will be given an ijaaza to practice authorized hijama services. Candidates must receive a separate ijaaza and training to teach hijama and authorize others. At a minimum those interested in teaching must have completed a required amount of practical experience to qualify.

To date James McConnell a.k.a. Sheikh Umar Rabbani is the only authorized ijaaza teacher in the United States

As-Salaamu Alaikum!
Thanks for stopping by!

The book, Hijama vs. Cupping, is an answer to the above dilemma and tries to correct the misconceived notions that hijama is very simple and anyone can perform it. It really has very little to do with the actual ability of  someone to place cups on a person and extract blood. In fact the technical aspects of cupping are very easy to learn, but people ignore the greater blessings coming from an authorized hijama practitioner with a qualified ijaaza and a valid isnad.

We hope you purchase this book before you patronize someone claiming to be offering hijama services and learn more about the importance of having a proper ijaaza to teach or provide services with most anything Islamic.

Tentatively, the next Hijama Session will be offered on August 25th, 27th and 29th at the Broken Earth Dargah.

Hope to see you there.

Book Description

We begin every action with Bismillah ir Rahman ir Raheem, in the name of our Lord, Most Gracious Most Merciful. Why? Because in these words is blessed energy which heals and carries and makes the action valid. Hijama is an ancient art and a very strong tradition of Prophet Muhammad (saws) the beloved of the Divine and messenger sent to the world over 1400 years ago with a message of mercy for all of mankind. This tradition holds many secrets for the health of the human body, mind and spirit. These secrets are hidden, not within the practical application of the treatment, but within the energy that connects all those involved in the process.

Ijaaza is an old almost forgotten apprentice system whereby an aspirant studies under the tutelage of a master artisan who has a connection to the prophetic source of the tradition. The goal of the Hijama Master is to ascertain if a student has the innate calling and the moral aptitude required to be able to get out of the way so that the true healer of all illness can flow through his/her vessel like water through a channel running to its destination.

Book Reviews for Hijama vs Cupping

  • Hijama vs. Cupping, No Ijaaza, No Hijama achieves its objective . . . .     Posted February 15, 2013

"Hijama vs. Cupping, No Ijaaza, No Hijama achieves its objective in helping to protect this valuable sunnah (example) of Prophet Muhammad by accurately explaining the importance of the Ijaaza system of education that is so vital to preserving any Islamic discipline, including calligraphy and other arts and sciences. More than just a book on hijama, the author delves into some of the major causes of illness today. I highly recommend it for all [persons] [sic] interested in this subject."
